12″ Digital Photo Frames
what is a good online company for printing/enlarging digital photos?
I have a lot of beautiful scenic and architecture photos i have taken at 6 megapixels while traveling. I’d like to get them enlarged to around 12″ x 15″ and get them framed so i can adorn my house walls with them. I think it would make a neat personal gallery. Can someone recommend a good online company that does this?
Let me add to the list of people recommending Mpix. Go to http://www.mpix.com/productsinfo.aspx and browse the site and see what they offer.
David makes an excellent point about framing expense. If you want to “adorn the walls,” you can end up breaking the bank with custom framing. I found, though, that you can learn to cut mats yourself and save a lot of money. I just did a show where I used a lot of 8×12 and 10×15 prints and put them into stock frames. The 8×12′s fit into 11×14 frames and the 10×15′s fit into 16×20 frames. These frames came with mats cut to fit much smaller prints so you could autograph the borders. I think the 11×14 had a 5×7 opening and the 16×20 had an 8×10 opening. I just recut the mats to the sizes I needed. These are not great photos, because that wasn’t the purpose, but here are the framed prints that I showed. You can even see that the mats in these autograph frames had a black background so it created a black outline around the photo. I got these frames at a half-price sale at Michael’s, so I paid something like $12 each for the smaller and $20 for the larger frames – with mats! A custom frame job for a 12×15 photo with a 3-4″ mat border would cost $200 or more, as David said, and that’s if you keep it simple.
